Allegro

After an appointment, I was in the mood for pasta for lunch. My wife and I decided to go to Allegro in Downtown Upland. We picked up food from here in the past and I recall the food being good, but I don’t recall our past order. This was our first time dining in the restaurant.

Allegro has a nice ambiance and quaint environment. The staff was very attentive and we were seated right away. We were presented with a lunch menu, regular menu, and a basket of bread. The bread was superb. The lunch menu had some interesting items. Because of my dietary restrictions, I was unable to order from the lunch menu. We ordered from the main menu and selected the following items: Cozze E Vongole, IL Giardino, & Ravioli Di Pollo Ai Funghi.

The superb bread basket

Cozze E Vongole (Mussels and clams steamed in a spicy tomato & white wine broth)

I did not care for this appetizer, the clams and mussels were overcooked. The mussel that I ate was not cleaned properly and it had grit inside of it. My wife ate the majority of the appetizer and she agreed that the clams were overcooked. Besides the overcooked clams, she enjoyed the appetizer. I would not recommend this dish. (2/5)

Cozze E Vongole

IL Giardino (Spinach fettuccini, zucchini, tomatoes, peas, asparagus, mushrooms, onions, roasted garlic and basil, served with extra virgin olive oil)

This was a good dish, everything was cooked and seasoned well. It was the vegetable pasta I was looking for and it hit the spot. It could of benefited from a little bit of spice. I should of added some red pepper flakes, but would still order it again. (4/5)

IL Giardino

Ravioli Di Pollo Ai Funghi (House made chicken ravioli, served in a creamy mushroom sauce)

I tasted a ravioli and it was good. It had a nice flavor and it meshed well with the creamy mushrooms. This was my wife’s lunch and she said this dish was very reminiscent of her childhood. She enjoyed the creaminess of the mushroom and although the ravioli was on the thick side it was still a treat to eat. (4/5) Wife’s rating

Ravioli Di Pollo Ai Funghi

We had a enjoyable lunch. The restaurant has a nice environment and a very attentive wait staff. The items on the lunch menu are priced well. The items on the main menu are on the higher side. With the exception of the appetizer, our other items were delicious. I look forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu. If you are in the Upland area and in the mood for Italian food, I would encourage you to try Allegro.
